This past Friday, Shannon Brichele, aka Shanichel, came to dive the South Shore of Kauai all the way from UT. Despite being the youngest diver on the boat Shanichel was well prepared. She was the only diver with all her own gear. As we got to our dive site she did her giant stride without a moment of hesitation. She had a safe slow descent using the down line and then proceeded to explore the dive site known as Stonehouse with her dive buddy and dad, Mike.
We saw some really colorful fish along the way including a really big Commerson's Frogfish, various butterfly and angelfish. She did equally well on her second dive of the day to a dive site known as the Caverns. Caverns is kauai signature South Shore dive. Even Jacques Cousteau visited and wrote about this site in the 1970s. There we saw a large numbers of the Green Hawaiian Sea Turtles that call the spot home.

How very "cool" of you to include Shanichel in your blog. And the clip of her diving is very nice, especially for Shanichel's mother.
I read the other comments (blogs) you've written and have viewed the various vidieos. Now we're planning our next Hawiian trip. The forbidden island or the Manta's at the big island.
If you're ever in Utah and would like to experience diving in a creater (93 degree water) or a thermal pond next to grazing cattle, let us know. We'd be happy to share diving - 600 miles away from the ocean.

You should start off with the night manta dive on the big island. The depth will allow Shanichel to go. Ni'ihau is for advanced divers. The depths are close to recreational maximum depth, the currents can be quite strong, and most sites are drift dives.
I'll keep you in mind if we find ourselves in Utah. We do tend to travel. Maybe one day we can dive together in another exotic location. Say HI to Shanichel.
